Crambid Snout Moth / Lawn Moth

Lawns, grassy fields, pastures, gardens, and suburban backyards

Larvae (sod webworms) feed on roots and blades of turfgrass and grains; adults feed on flower nectar or do not feed at all

Adults are nocturnal or crepuscular, often resting during the day on foliage or netting with wings wrapped tightly around their body in a narrow, cylindrical shape. They fly in low, erratic zig-zag patterns when disturbed.

Harmless to humans and pets as they do not bite or sting. The larvae can cause small brown, dead patches in lawns if present in high numbers, but the adults serve as a food source for birds, bats, and predatory insects.
