Ten-lined June Beetle

Western North America, typically found in arid and semi-arid regions, pine forests, and sandy soils where larvae feed underground.

Adults feed on needles of pine and fir trees or leaves of deciduous trees and shrubs. Larvae feed extensively on plant roots underground.

Adults are nocturnal and strongly attracted to lights, often flying during warm summer nights and making a hissing or clicking sound when disturbed. Females lay eggs in the soil.

Larvae can be agricultural pests by damaging the roots of crops, turfgrass, and trees. Adults generally cause minor leaf damage to trees. They pose no significant threat to humans.
