Fruit fly (or Vinegar fly/Drain fly)

Damp environments, rotting fruit, garbage disposals, drains, and kitchen areas.

Decaying organic matter, fermenting fruit, fungi, and bacterial slime in drains.

Attracted to fermented odors and moisture; rapid life cycle from egg to adult in about 8-10 days; often seen hovering in groups.

Generally harmless to humans but can contaminate food with bacteria and pathogens; they are beneficial in ecosystems as decomposers and are vital in genetic research.
