Natural Habitat

High-humidity environments such as damp wood, under bark, stored grains, old books, and wallpaper where mold or fungi can grow.

Diet & Feeding

They feed primarily on microscopic fungi, mold, algae, starch (such as book binding glue), and organic detritus.

Behavior Patterns

They are wingless or weakly winged insects that prefer dark, moist areas. They do not bite humans or pets but can multiply rapidly in humid indoor conditions.

Risks & Benefits

They are considered nuisance pests that can damage paper products or contaminate stored food. However, they do not carry diseases and their presence is often a helpful indicator of moisture or mold issues in a building.
