Western conifer seed bug

Common on conifers and around homes, especially in autumn when it seeks sheltered places to overwinter.

Feeds by sucking fluids from developing seeds and cones of pine and other conifers.

A long-legged, brown true bug with flattened, leaf-like hind-leg expansions. Adults may enter buildings to overwinter and can release a strong odor when disturbed.

Harmless to people and homes; it may reduce conifer seed production, but is not considered a major household pest.
