Hematophagous (feeds exclusively on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals)

Nocturnal and highly secretive, emerging primarily at night to feed while hosts are asleep; they hide in dark, tight spaces during the day and undergo incomplete metamorphosis through five nymphal stages.

Risks include painful bites causing allergic reactions, skin irritation, secondary infections from scratching, and significant psychological and financial stress due to infestations; they provide no known ecological or human benefits.
