Click Beetle

Woodlands, fields, gardens, leaf litter, and occasionally indoors near lights or windows.

Adults primarily feed on nectar, pollen, plant juices, and soft-bodied insects. Larvae (wireworms) feed on decaying wood or plant roots.

When trapped or placed on their back, they use a specialized spine-and-notch mechanism on their thorax to snap violently, making a 'clicking' sound that flips them into the air to escape predators.

Harmless to humans; they do not bite or sting. Adult beetles pose no threat, though some wireworm larvae can occasionally damage crops or garden seedling roots.
