Orange-tip Butterfly

Damp meadows, woodland edges, hedgerows, and riverside banks throughout Europe and temperate Asia.

Adults feed on nectar from flowers like Garlic Mustard and Cuckoo Flower; larvae feed on the seed pods of the same plants.

Active in spring (April to June). They are single-brooded; the larvae are often cannibalistic if they meet on the same plant. They overwinter as pupae.

Harmless to humans; acts as a pollinator and serves as a classic indicator of the arrival of spring in its native range.
