Twospotted Stink Bug

Fields, gardens, and agricultural areas, often found on plants where prey is abundant like potatoes or milkweed.

Predaceous; primarily feeds on the larvae of beetles and butterflies, such as the Colorado potato beetle and monarch caterpillars.

This bug uses its proboscis to pierce the body of its prey and suck out fluids. It is known for its bright aposematic coloration which warns predators of its foul taste.

Beneficial to ecosystems as a biological control agent for agricultural pests, though its predation on monarch caterpillars as seen in the image may be seen as a drawback by some gardeners.
