Springtail (likely globular springtail)

Moist soil, leaf litter, compost, moss, decaying wood, and damp indoor areas. They favor humid surfaces rich in organic matter.

Feeds mainly on fungi, algae, bacteria, decaying plant material, and organic detritus; it does not bite or suck blood.

Usually occurs in large groups and moves by crawling or jumping with a forked furcula. Populations increase in damp conditions and decline when surfaces dry.

Harmless to people, pets, clothing, and buildings; indoor numbers indicate excess moisture rather than infestation damage. They recycle organic matter and help regulate fungi and microbes in soil.
