Springtail

Damp environments, soil, leaf litter, decaying wood, and occasionally indoors in areas with high moisture such as bathrooms or kitchens.

Fungi, algae, decomposing organic matter, bacteria, and pollen.

They are wingless hexapods that get their name from a specialized forked appendage called a furcula under their abdomen, which they use to spring into the air when disturbed. They are attracted to moisture and can often be found in large numbers near water sources.

Springtails do not bite, sting, transmit diseases, or damage structural wood. They are beneficial decomposers in soil ecosystems. Finding them indoors usually indicates an excess moisture issue.
