Brown recluse spider (probable)

Dark, dry, undisturbed places such as closets, basements, attics, boxes, and wall voids; common in the south-central United States.

Predatory; eats small insects and other arthropods, often scavenging prey caught in its irregular web.

Nocturnal and usually nonaggressive, retreating when disturbed. It matures in roughly a year, and females produce several egg sacs; identification from this image alone is uncertain.

Bites are uncommon but can cause painful, necrotic skin lesions and rarely systemic illness; seek medical care for a concerning bite. It benefits ecosystems by controlling household insects.
