Jumping spider

Sunny walls, fences, vegetation, and structures across much of North America. This individual appears on an outdoor surface.

Predatory; hunts flies, mosquitoes, small moths, and other arthropods. It captures prey by stalking and pouncing rather than using a capture web.

Active by day, with excellent vision and frequent orientation toward observers. Uses silk draglines while jumping and builds a small silken retreat for shelter, molting, and overwintering.

Generally harmless to people; bites are rare and medically insignificant. Beneficial predators that help control household and garden insects.
