Paper Wasp

Meadows, gardens, and woodlands, often building nests on human structures like eaves and door frames.

Adults feed on nectar and fruit juices; larvae are fed masticated insects like caterpillars and flies caught by the workers.

Semi-social insects that build open-comb nests from wood fibers mixed with saliva. They are less aggressive than yellowjackets but will defend their nest if disturbed.

Provide ecological benefits by controlling pest insect populations and pollinating plants. They pose a risk of painful stings which can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
