Ichneumon Wasp

Found in a variety of environments including forests, meadows, and gardens; often seen near host vegetation.

Larvae are internal or external parasites of other insects (caterpillars, beetles, or other wasps). Adults feed on nectar and water.

Solitary insects; females use a long stinger-like ovipositor to lay eggs inside or on host insects. They are highly active and often attracted to lights.

Beneficial to ecosystems as natural pest controllers; most species cannot sting humans. The long tail-like structure is an egg-laying organ, not a stinger.
