Pill Bug (Woodlouse / Roly-Poly)

Damp, dark environments such as soil, under rocks, decaying wood, compost, and leaf litter.

Detritivore; feeds on decaying organic matter, rotting wood, dead leaves, fungi, and occasionally young plants or roots.

Nocturnal invertebrates that curl into a tight ball (conglobation) when threatened to protect their soft undersides. They require high moisture levels to breathe through gill-like structures.

Harmless to humans; beneficial decomposers that enrich soil quality and recycle nutrients, though in large numbers they can occasionally nibble on soft roots or tender seedlings in gardens.
