Dark, undisturbed indoor areas such as closets, carpets, upholstery, and beneath furniture; larvae construct portable fiber cases.

Larvae feed on keratin-containing materials, including wool, fur, feathers, hair, and natural-fiber debris. Adults do not feed and primarily reproduce.

Larvae avoid light and remain inside silken, debris-covered cases, emerging to graze on nearby fibers. They can persist indoors for months, with adults flying weakly and often staying concealed.

They do not bite or transmit disease, but infestations can damage wool clothing, carpets, and other animal-derived textiles. They contribute modestly to decomposition of keratinous material.
