Springtail

Damp soil, leaf litter, compost, decaying vegetation, and water-film surfaces; commonly found around sinks, drains, and houseplants.

Feeds mainly on fungi, algae, bacteria, decaying organic matter, and microscopic plant material rather than blood or household materials.

Often occurs in groups and thrives in high humidity. Many species have a forked furcula that propels them into sudden jumps; they reproduce through eggs and immature stages resembling adults.

Harmless to people, pets, and buildings, and they do not bite. They help decompose organic matter and recycle nutrients, though large indoor numbers indicate excess moisture.
