Natural Habitat

Found indoors in pantries, warehouses, museums, and old buildings where dried organic matter is present.

Diet & Feeding

Scavenger of dried plant and animal materials, including grains, spices, seeds, dried fruit, silk, wool, and leather.

Behavior Patterns

Primarily nocturnal and slow-moving. They are flightless and have a bulbous abdomen that resembles a spider or a drop of blood. They can survive for long periods without food.

Risks & Benefits

A common nuisance pest that can contaminate stored food products and damage fabrics or museum specimens; they do not bite humans or pets.
