Indoors, especially carpets, upholstery, closets, and areas containing lint or natural fibers; adults may occur near windows and lights.

Larvae feed on wool, fur, feathers, hair, dead insects, and other keratin-rich debris. Adults generally feed on pollen or nectar and do not damage fabrics.

Larvae are slow-moving, hairy, and often hide in dark undisturbed areas; adults are small, oval beetles that may wander indoors. Several generations can occur annually in warm buildings.

Larvae can damage natural-fiber textiles and trigger irritation from shed hairs. They are decomposers outdoors, recycling animal and plant materials; identification remains uncertain from this image.
