Human Head Louse (Nit / Egg casing or skin flake)

Human scalp and hair shafts, particularly behind the ears and near the nape of the neck.

Obligate ectoparasites that feed exclusively on human blood several times a day.

Nits are glued securely to hair shafts near the scalp. Lice cannot fly or jump; they move by crawling from hair to hair.

Causes intense itching and scalp irritation. Secondary bacterial infections can occur from scratching. They do not transmit serious disease pathogens, but infestation causes discomfort.
