Natural Habitat

Found worldwide in heated buildings, hospitals, homes, and offices, often nesting in wall voids, behind baseboards, or in insulation.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous; feeds on a wide variety of foods including sweets, proteins, greases, dead insects, and even blood or pet food.

Behavior Patterns

Form large colonies with multiple queens and can easily split into multiple colonies (budding) when disturbed. Workers forage along established trails.

Risks & Benefits

Major pest in hospitals and homes as they can transmit pathogens and contaminate sterile areas; they provide no significant benefits indoors.
