Firefly (Lightning Bug)

Moist, wooded areas, meadows, and gardens; often found near standing water or tall grass.

Larvae are predatory, eating snails, slugs, and worms; adults may eat nectar or pollen, though some do not feed at all.

Adults are best known for bioluminescent flashing to attract mates during summer evenings. Larvae live in soil or leaf litter.

Harmless to humans; highly beneficial to ecosystems as they act as a natural pest control for slugs and snails.
