Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous; primarily feeds on honeydew from aphids and mealybugs, but also scavenges for sweets, grease, and dead insects.
Behavior Patterns
Highly mobile and opportunistic nesters; they form multiple interconnected colonies (polydomous). They run in erratic, jerky patterns when disturbed.
Risks & Benefits
Considered a significant nuisance pest in homes and hospitals due to their ability to contaminate food and carry pathogens. They do not sting and their bite is generally unfelt by humans.
