Pill bug (woodlouse)

Moist soil, leaf litter, under stones, logs, and garden debris; commonly found in damp buildings. It requires humid conditions to avoid drying out.

Feeds mainly on decaying leaves, fungi, algae, and other decomposing organic matter, occasionally nibbling tender seedlings.

Mostly nocturnal and shelter-seeking; curls into a tight ball when disturbed. Females carry developing young in a brood pouch, and populations are greatest in moist habitats.

Harmless to people, pets, and structures, and it does not bite or sting. It helps decompose organic material and recycle nutrients, though large populations may damage seedlings.
