Non-biting Midge

Found near freshwater bodies such as lakes, ponds, streams, and damp outdoor surfaces.

Larvae feed on algae, detritus, and organic matter in water; adults usually do not feed or consume small amounts of nectar/liquid.

Adults often form large swarms near water sources during dusk or dawn. They look similar to mosquitoes but do not possess biting mouthparts.

They do not bite or transmit diseases to humans. They are an essential food source for fish, birds, and amphibians.
