Common Gray Moth

Deciduous and mixed forests, woodlands, gardens, and suburban areas across North America.

Caterpillars feed on leaves of a wide variety of trees and shrubs, including oak, willow, cherry, and maple. Adults may feed on flower nectar.

Strictly nocturnal and strongly attracted to artificial lights at night. During the day, they rest flattened against tree bark or screens, using camouflage to blend into their surroundings.

Harmless to humans. The caterpillars serve as a food source for birds and predatory insects, and adults help pollinate plants.
