Broad-headed bark bug

Found on tree trunks, fallen logs, and beneath loose bark, especially in moist woodland habitats. It is widespread in eastern and central North America.

Nymphs and adults usually feed on fungi, decaying plant material, and possibly small arthropods or plant juices. Its exact feeding habits are not fully documented.

A dark, flattened, long-legged true bug that runs quickly and often hides in bark crevices. It develops through incomplete metamorphosis, with wingless nymphs resembling smaller adults.

Harmless to people, pets, and buildings; it does not typically bite or infest homes. It contributes to decomposition-associated food webs and serves as prey for other woodland predators.
