Natural Habitat

Vineyards, gardens, and woodlands throughout North America where host plants grow.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed specifically on the leaves of grapevines (Vitis species), Virginia creeper, and redbud. Adults feed on nectar.

Behavior Patterns

The larvae are known for rolling or folding a leaf and tying it with silk to create a protective shelter while they feed. Adults are primarily nocturnal and are attracted to lights.

Risks & Benefits

Considered a minor pest in commercial vineyards as heavy infestations can reduce the photosynthetic capacity of the vines. They provide a food source for birds and parasitic wasps.
