Found under tree bark, in rotting wood, leaf litter, soils, and occasionally inside homes where they may wander in from outdoors.

Larvae (wireworms) feed on plant roots, seeds, and decaying organic matter. Adults feed primarily on plant nectar, pollen, and occasionally plant foliage.

Famous for their ability to launch themselves into the air with an audible clicking sound when placed on their backs, used to escape predators.

Generally harmless to humans and do not bite or sting. Larvae can sometimes be minor agricultural pests to crops like corn and potatoes, but adults are beneficial pollinators.
