Bombardier Beetle

Typically found in temperate regions, often near water bodies, hiding under logs, rocks, or loose leaf litter during the day.

Carnivorous; they primarily prey on other small insects and invertebrates.

They are nocturnal hunters. When threatened, they produce a chemical reaction in their abdomen that shoots an audible, boiling-hot, caustic chemical spray at attackers.

They are beneficial to ecosystems as natural pest controllers. For humans, they are not aggressive but can cause painful chemical burns on the skin if handled.
