Elm Leaf Beetle

Found in areas with elm trees, particularly near urban landscapes, parks, and forests where elms are present. Adults often seek shelter in houses and buildings during winter.

Herbivorous. Both larvae and adults feed exclusively on the leaves of elm trees.

Adults overwintering in protected structures emerge in spring to feed and lay yellow, spindle-shaped eggs on elm leaves. Larvae hatch and feed on the underside of leaves, causing skeletonization.

Risks include cosmetic damage and defoliation of elm trees, weakening them against other pests and diseases. They do not bite humans or transmit diseases, but can become a household nuisance when seeking overwintering shelter.
