Long-bodied cellar spider (daddy longlegs spider)

Common in dark, sheltered human structures such as basements, garages, sheds, and building corners; also found in caves and sheltered vegetation.

Predatory, feeding on flies, mosquitoes, ants, other spiders, and small arthropods. It captures prey in irregular, tangled webs and may wrap larger prey in silk.

Builds loose cobwebs and vibrates rapidly when disturbed, making the spider difficult to target. Females carry a small cluster of eggs in their jaws until hatching; multiple generations may occur annually indoors.

Harmless to people and not medically significant. Beneficial as a household predator that consumes pest insects and other spiders.
