Springtail (likely)

Moist soil, leaf litter, compost, decaying organic matter, and damp buildings. Often gathers around water or humid surfaces.

Feeds mainly on fungi, algae, bacteria, decaying plant material, and microscopic organic debris; it does not bite or suck blood.

Typically moves by hopping using a forked furcula beneath the abdomen, though some species crawl. Populations increase in damp conditions and decline as surfaces dry.

Harmless to people, pets, clothing, and stored food, with no meaningful disease risk. Springtails help decompose organic matter and recycle nutrients, though large indoor numbers indicate excess moisture.
