Common Shore Fly (Larva/Puparium)

Found in moist environments, greenhouse soils, hydroponic systems, and near algae-rich mud or stagnant water.

Primarily feeds on algae, bacteria, and various single-celled organisms in wet media.

The larvae are aquatic or semi-aquatic, developing in thin films of water or saturated soil before forming a leathery, brown puparium for metamorphosis.

Generally harmless to humans but considered a nuisance pest in greenhouses; they can indirectly spread plant pathogens like Pythium by carrying spores between plants.
