Bed bug

Human dwellings, especially mattresses, bed frames, upholstered furniture, and cracks near sleeping areas. They hide during daylight and emerge at night.

Feeds exclusively on blood, primarily from humans, using piercing-sucking mouthparts. It usually feeds for several minutes before retreating to shelter.

Nocturnal, wingless, and highly adept at hiding and dispersing through luggage, clothing, and furnishings. Females lay eggs in protected crevices, and populations can persist for months without feeding.

Bites can cause itchy welts, allergic reactions, and sleep disturbance, but bed bugs are not known to transmit disease efficiently. They provide little meaningful ecological benefit in human environments.
