Broad-headed bug

Grasslands, woodland edges, gardens, and other sunny areas with legumes; adults may wander indoors attracted to lights.

Nymphs and adults suck plant fluids, especially from legumes such as beans and kudzu, using piercing-sucking mouthparts.

Adults are elongate, long-legged, and often resemble ants or wasps; they bask, fly readily, and may emit an odor when disturbed. Nymphs commonly mimic ants and develop through incomplete metamorphosis.

Generally harmless to people and not a significant indoor pest. They may occasionally damage legume plants, while serving as prey for birds, spiders, and predatory insects.
