American cockroach (likely; shed exoskeleton)

Warm, humid structures, especially basements, drains, sewers, kitchens, and utility spaces; it may also occur outdoors in leaf litter.

Omnivorous scavenger feeding on food scraps, starches, decaying organic matter, paper, and other materials.

Mostly nocturnal and fast-moving, hiding in cracks by day. Females produce egg cases, and nymphs molt repeatedly before adulthood; the pictured brown material may be a dead or shed roach body.

Can mechanically spread microbes and contaminate food, while shed skins and droppings may trigger allergies or asthma. It contributes modestly to decomposition outdoors.
