Nocturnal parasites that hide during the day in dark, secluded places and emerge at night to feed. They are attracted to warmth, carbon dioxide, and body odor.

Risks include itchy, red welts from bites, potential secondary skin infections from scratching, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress or anxiety due to infestations. They provide no known ecological benefits to human living spaces.
