Active during spring and summer; undergoes simple metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult). Known for releasing a pungent odor from glands on the thorax when threatened.

Considered a significant agricultural pest that can damage crops like soybeans, corn, and tomatoes; harmless to humans although their defensive odor is unpleasant.
