Herbivorous; they feed on plant tissues, seeds, roots, fruits, and stored grains.

Many species have elbowed antennae and a distinct snout. They are typically slow-moving and may play dead when disturbed.

Generally harmless to humans and do not bite, but certain species can be major agricultural pests or infest pantry goods like flour and rice.
