Red Harvester Ant

Arid and semi-arid regions, grasslands, deserts, open soils, and gravelly ground.

Primarily seeds (granivorous), though they occasionally consume small dead insects.

They construct subterranean nests featuring a central entrance hole surrounded by cleared, vegetation-free ground. Highly active during warm daylight hours, gathering and storing seeds in underground chambers.

Benefits: Essential seed dispersers and soil aerators in arid ecosystems. Risks: Possess a very painful, venomous sting that can cause severe localized pain and allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
