Natural Habitat

Found in damp, decaying wood, old timber, or structural wood with high moisture content.

Diet & Feeding

Secondary wood borers; they consume decaying wood fibers and the fungi that grow on moist wood.

Behavior Patterns

They are typically nocturnal and shy away from light. They spend most of their life cycle as larvae within the wood they feed on.

Risks & Benefits

They are indicators of excessive moisture or rot in a home. While they do not bite humans, they can cause minor structural damage to wood that is already weakened by moisture.
