Silver-spotted Skipper

Woodland edges, brushy areas, fields, gardens, and streamsides.

Adults feed primarily on flower nectar from a wide variety of plants; caterpillars feed on leaves of various legume family plants such as locusts, wisteria, and tick-trefoils.

Fast, darting flight pattern. Males perch on vegetation or hilltops to wait for females. Caterpillars construct leaf shelters tied together with silk.

Harmless to humans. They act as pollinators and are a food source for birds and other predators. Caterpillars may occasionally feed on cultivated legumes, but rarely cause significant economic damage.
