Homes, especially carpets, upholstery, closets, and areas containing lint, hair, or natural fibers. Adults may occur around windows and flowers.

Larvae feed on wool, fur, feathers, silk, dead insects, and other keratin-rich debris; adults mainly consume pollen and nectar.

Adults are small, rounded beetles that may wander indoors; larvae are hairy and avoid light. Larvae shed skins and can persist unnoticed in stored textiles.

They do not bite or transmit disease, but larvae can damage natural-fiber clothing, carpets, and taxidermy. They help decompose animal-based organic material outdoors.
