Orb-weaver spider (likely cross orb-weaver)

Gardens, shrubs, woodland edges, fences, and building exteriors; commonly found near outdoor lights or structures.

Carnivorous; captures flies, moths, mosquitoes, and other small arthropods in a sticky orb web, then immobilizes them with silk and venom.

Builds or repairs a circular web, usually overnight, and waits at its center or nearby for vibrations. Adults generally live one season; egg sacs overwinter and hatch in spring.

Generally harmless to people, with bites uncommon and medically insignificant. It is beneficial as a predator of nuisance and pest insects.
