Dry, dark, undisturbed places such as closets, boxes, sheds, and wall voids, primarily in the south-central and midwestern United States.

A nocturnal predator that eats small insects and other arthropods, usually capturing prey in sparse, irregular webs or by active hunting.

Solitary, shy, and largely nocturnal; it typically flees rather than bites and may remain hidden for long periods. The pictured specimen is damaged, so identification is not certain.

Its bite can rarely cause medically significant, slow-healing tissue damage; most suspected bites are not confirmed. It helps control household and outdoor insect pests.
