Omnivorous; feeds on plants, seeds, and other small insects

Known for the loud chirping sound produced by males to attract mates; primarily nocturnal

Beneficial to ecosystems as a food source for larger animals and through nutrient cycling, but can become a minor pest if numbers are high and they enter homes
