Springtail

Damp environments rich in organic matter, such as leaf litter, soil, rotting wood, and occasionally damp indoor areas like bathrooms or basements.

They are wingless and known for using a specialized abdominal appendage called a furcula to spring or jump into the air when disturbed. They require high moisture to survive.

Springtails are generally harmless. They do not bite humans, spread diseases, or damage structural wood, though large numbers indoors can be a nuisance indicating high humidity or moisture issues. Ecologically, they are beneficial as decomposers that help cycle nutrients in soil.
