Hoverfly (or Marmalade Hoverfly)

Gardens, meadows, agricultural fields, and forest edges where flowers are abundant

Adults feed on nectar and pollen; larvae are carnivorous and primarily feed on aphids

Known for hovering motionless in mid-air before darting away suddenly. They exhibit Batesian mimicry, resembling stinging wasps or bees to deter predators despite being completely harmless.

Completely harmless to humans (cannot sting or bite). Highly beneficial as they act as important pollinators as adults and natural pest controllers as larvae by consuming large numbers of aphids.
